EA Sports is determined to convince us that its game named F1 deserves to win the prize for the best Formula 1 simulator! Let’s see how this game excells itself in a way that makes its contestant jealous. You can change your vehicles speed, handling and you can also test them before each race.

The animations are professionally done, the sounds and graphics are high quality, and the interface is intuitive and nice. Unlike Grand Prix, F1 has sexy ladies at starting grid.

The camera angles aren’t so numerous, but they are carefully planned and elaborated, so is the rendering of the tracks. About the vulnerability of your racing car, at every crash you will experience significant damage, so it will be extra sensitive at impacts and it will be extremely easy for you to destroy it completely. Some big improvements of this game are related to the car’s controls which are splendid and more convenient and the multiple options and possibilites to change its settings.

Personally, I haven’t experienced bugs throughout the game, so this is a huge plus. Play it without worries and I assure you that it will reach your high expectations!

F1 is probably the best F1 sim available today. Newcomers to this category of game won’t be disappointed with EA’s latest offering and players of older versions will enjoy the changes to this version.

Overall gameplay hasn’t changed too much from the edition, so I’m not going to spend too much time on it see my long review on F1 if you’re interested. The main things you’ll notice are slicker menus, more advanced car setup and a full telemetry system. On the track you’ll be treated to better visuals which were already great in , pit-car radio communication which can be very helpful when you’re trying to race and don’t want to flip through menus , and a revised physics model.

EA seems to have done a good job releasing a product that isn’t beta quality. The initial release of F1 was plagued by problems that made it virtually unplayable for some including me until a patch was released.

I’ve had no major problems with this release and haven’t seen many complaints from others. My biggest issue is with the multiplayer system. It just isn’t up to par with today’s games. The game selection menu barely provide any information about the servers and doesn’t allow filtering based on game attributes such as difficulty level, number of players, etc.

Once you do find a game you might not even be able to connect or will be given a “Connection Refused” message with no further information. Gameplay in a multiplayer situation isn’t much better. Traditionally the cars stick to the racing line like shit to a blanket, but here they do seem to have some sense of self-preservation, although that said, they aren’t completely averse to giving you the occasional nudge, making for some seat of the pants racing.

Hats off to EA then, whose ruthless business model has seen them forge ahead in the F1 stakes. While Geoff Crammond takes an age to deliver outdated efforts, F1 is sitting pretty in pole position. Following last year’s positive review of EA’s F1 game, we received a sackload of mail well, one crudely daubed letter berating our lack of professionalism for recommending a game that didn’t feature telemetry. We weren’t overly sure what it was then, and we’ve only just about worked it out now, the reason being that this is the first time an EA F1 game has featured it.

In fact, F has stacks of the stuff, and after each session you can sit and stare at countless graphs that chart your lap times and performance at each corner and at every straight, until your eyes bleed. You’ll need to really know your stuff if you’re going to either enjoy or understand what it’s all about, but if you are a hardcore F1 obsessive, you’ll be in your element and will find that it can make up those few extra split seconds for you.
